What Is a Blog Post?

A blog post is a type of article found on a blog. Blog posts are typically long-form and offer more in-depth content than the shorter articles that appear on social media channels such as Twitter or Facebook.

Bloggers often publish new posts daily, weekly, or monthly to keep their readers engaged and coming back for more great information. The best blogs provide regular insights into specific topics while also allowing interaction with others through comments and feedback.

As you create your blog, it’s important to remember:

You should write about what you know and write about things that interest you.

Jenny Moore

This way, not only will people enjoy reading the post, but they’ll walk away having learned something new.

The Good and The Bad About Blogging

We’ve already discovered that blogging is a great way to share your thoughts with the world, and it can also be a great way to make money.

However, there are also some drawbacks to blogging. In the following, we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of blogging.

The Pros of Blogging

1. You can share your thoughts and ideas with the world.

2. You can build a following of people interested in what you have to say.

3. You can make money from your blog by selling advertising or becoming an affiliate for other products or services.

4. You can create a community of like-minded people who share your interests.

5. You can learn new things and improve your skills by writing about your interests.

Blogging is easy – sometimes, you just write what’s on your mind and hit publish.

Bobby Diggs

The Cons of Blogging

1. It can be time-consuming to write a blog post.

2. You can’t always control what people say about your blog posts.

3. You can’t make money from your blog if you don’t have any readers.

4. You can’t always control the content of other people’s blogs linked to yours.

5. Blogging can be addictive, and it can be hard to stop once you start (that could also be a very good thing too!).

PRO SOLUTION:

If writing a blog post or doing anything “techie” is not your strongest feature, hire a pro. We love and use Fiverr to help us with some of our marketing, voice-over, and editing needs. Check out some our favorite writers below!

What is the Difference Between a Blog and a Website?

A website is a collection of pages that are connected by links. Websites are usually created to share information with the world.

A blog is a type of website used to share opinions and thoughts on a particular topic. Blogs are typically updated more often than websites.

There is no real difference between the two; you can have both on your web host if desired. It depends entirely on what content you want to share with people and how often. If it’s just informational, then a website would be more ideal than a blog because it won’t require as many updates.

However, if you want to share your thoughts and ideas on a specific topic, a blog would be better because it is updated more regularly.

You can always have both, though! It’s up to you. 🙂

PRO SOLUTION:

Start with a website and a few landing pages like an “About Us” page for your business. You can also link contact information and other important details you want to share about you or your biz.

And you can always and very easily add the blog later when you’re ready.

How?

Simply start publishing posts instead of pages. Yes, my friends, it’s that simple.

But, if you’re still stuck, browse through Fiverr’s catalog of freelancing pros to help you fill your website or blogging goals.

Is it better to have a blog or a website?

When it comes to deciding whether you should have a blog or a website, there are a few key advantages that a blog has over a website.

For starters, blogs are typically much easier and cheaper to set up than websites. In fact, you can start a blog for only $2.95 on many platforms, such as WordPress via Bluehost.

This makes them an excellent option for small businesses or individuals just starting online.

Another advantage of blogs is that they are interactive and engaging.

Readers can leave comments and interact with the author, which can help to build relationships and create a community around the blog.

Blogs help you build relationships with potential customers and clients and allow you to connect with other businesses all over this beautiful planet.

Rebecca Gold

This can be beneficial for businesses, as it allows customers to connect with the brand and feel like they are part of something.

Finally, blogs are a great way to share your thoughts and ideas with the world. They provide a platform for you to express yourself and share your perspectives on topics that interest you. This can help build your brand or personal reputation online and attract new readers and followers.

So, if you’re considering starting a website, we would recommend creating a blog instead. It’s cheaper, easier, and more engaging than a website, and it can help you build your online presence and reach a wider audience.

What are Some Ways a Blog Is Used?

Now we know that a blog is a website that contains information and personal opinions or stories about any topic. Millions of people read popular blogs, so they can be used for marketing purposes and provide helpful content on topics you feel strongly about.

In addition, when search engines crawl websites, blog posts are often among the first pages indexed because of their fresh, updated content. This is why it’s important to post consistently and use keywords in your titles and descriptions.

As a business, you can also use blogs to connect with customers and build relationships. Customers appreciate it when companies take the time to write interesting and informative blog posts and then share them with their followers.

Many successful companies, such as Apple and Google, have active blogs regularly updated by employees who want to express themselves or provide information about upcoming products or services.

Google’s official blog: “The Keyword”

In addition, writing a company blog can help build relationships directly with customers and create a loyal following. Therefore, it’s important to write engaging blog posts related to your industry to attract more visitors who are likely to become customers!

What’s the Difference Between Posts and Pages?

Posts are generally the items that show up in a blog’s chronological feed, while pages are more static and are not necessarily listed in reverse chronological order.

This is what our WordPress dashboard looks like with links to either a “Posts” or “Pages”

Generally, posts are for time-sensitive information, while pages are for more permanent information.

Whenever we update this post, you’ll see the date update under the title too!

As you can see, this article was produced using a “post” instead of a “page.” Why is that? Well, the HIMMB team decided that we’d probably be updating the content a few times a year.

Posts also tend to be more interactive, with social media sharing buttons and comments enabled by default.

When you’re creating your post or your page on WordPress , you can choose to allow comments, pingbacks, and trackbacks. Also, if you get a comment that’s rude or spammy, you can be notified first so you can delete it before it shows up on your blog!

Pages are perfect for landing pages for marketing campaigns or to house content that you want to be easily accessible from the main navigation menu.

In summary, the most significant difference between posts and pages is that pages are not automatically included in the blog’s feed. If you want to have a page in the blog’s feed, you need to use a plugin or manually insert the page’s URL into the RSS feed.

Core Pages Every Single Blog and Website Must Have

Every blog and website should have a few key pages to be effective. These pages are essential for providing information to your readers and helping you achieve your goals. Here are the key pages that every blog and website should have:

1. Home Page

The home page is your main page, and it should include information about your blog or website, as well as links to your other pages. It’s also essential to have a call-to-action on your home pages, such as a button that allows readers to subscribe to your blog or email list.

Evernote is a great home page example. They have a simple, superb tagline + a tempting CTA.

2. About Page

The about page is where you introduce yourself and your blog or website. This page is an excellent opportunity to tell your readers why you started your blog or website and what they can expect from it.

It’s also helpful to include some background information, such as your previous work experience and qualifications that make you an expert on the topic of your blog or website.

Savoring Italy is a great blog about page example: It has that extra touch with personal photos and warmhearted stories.

3. Contact Page

The contact page is where your readers can find information about, well, contacting you. It’s essential to, at the very least, include your email address. If you’d like, add your phone number, and physical mailing address on this page too. You may also want to have a link to a contact form so that your readers can easily send you a message.

Here’s an example of contact form that’s included in our WordPress dashboard for free.

Go ahead and try it if you have any questions! We’d all love to hear from you!

4. Privacy policy page

The privacy policy page is where you disclose how you collect and use information from your readers. It’s important to be transparent about this information so that your readers know what to expect.

You may also want to include a link to this page on all of your other pages so that it’s easy for your readers to find.

Most WordPress templates will give you the option to include this link on the bottom (aka “the footer”) of your website.

5. The terms of service page

This is where you disclose the terms and conditions of using your blog or website. This page is vital for protecting yourself and your readers. You may also want to include a link to this page on all of your other pages so that it’s easy for your readers to find.

This is what Termsfeed’s footer looks like with all those “boring” links you don’t necessarily want on the top of your website’s page.

Why Do Business Websites Need a Blog?

There are many reasons why every business website should have a blog, and these are just a few of them.

Content:

Website owners produce content that can’t be found anywhere else, and people who create blogs for their website know what to focus on.

Social Media Shares:

When blogs are interesting and well-written, they tend to be shared on social media, which helps get the word out there about your business.

You can create a social media link like this one below for your readers. It takes only seconds on WordPress.

Optimization:

A blog provides a way for website owners to optimize their site by having authority content on subjects they specialize in.

That’s fancy Google-speak for: Every blogger wants to become a know-it-all.

And that’s a good thing.

In other words, the more you stick to publishing original content about your blog’s niche, the likelier Google will rank (recommend) it on their search engine.

Why?

Because they’ll see you as an expert.

Search engine traffic:

Blogs help boost search engine traffic. It appears as an authority site because of the sheer volume of articles and pages created with relevant keywords, which is why customers are likely to follow links from articles they read on the blog.

Brand awareness:

A blog is a way to keep the website in front of customers and prospects, not only through its own site but also through social media sites.

Relationship building:

A blog can help build relationships with customers, clients, and other bloggers as it provides an opportunity for two-way communication.

Who is a Blogger?

Short answer: Anyone.

Long answer: A blogger is someone who writes articles on a blog. Bloggers are passionate about what they write. They may be an expert in a particular writing area, or perhaps it is just something that helps them relax and unwind after work.

Some bloggers make money from their blog posts by using affiliate links or advertisements.

There are a variety of ways that bloggers can make money online. A few of the most common methods include displaying advertisements, selling products or services, and accepting donations.

But if you read up until now, you already knew that, smarty pants.

And as you may be aware of, bloggers earn income by writing sponsored posts, which is when they are paid to write about a particular product or service.

Additionally, other bloggers also offer consulting services or create digital products, such as ebooks or online courses, to maximize their income potential.

Depending on their strategies, bloggers can make between $0 and thousands of dollars each month.

In fact, some bloggers earn tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. And, no kidding, even millions.

Well done, Mr. Enfroy. Very well done, indeed.

Hey, I’m totally new to this whole blogging thing, but my buddy does it and makes a killing. He’s super secretive about it…why?

    1. the HIMMB Team Post author

Well, Josh S. First, thanks for writing. Second, your friend’s secrecy could be happening for a couple of reasons:
      a. He’s a jerk.
      b. He worked his butt off to learn the blogging “trade” and may feel like you’re expecting something for nothing.

My advice, let him know how awesome he is. Then, offer some form of compensation for his education – if he has the time.
